Not much can be discerned as to the features of the new handset, but the photographs do appear to show a sliding QWERTY keyboard. The processor is also thought to be 800MHz.
The little amount known has still got certain mobile phone analysts to suggest the Evo Shift is akin to T-Mobile’s G2 or possibly the HTC Merge.
Meanwhile, a new Sony Ericsson handset has also been spotted; this time at the US Federal Communications Commission.
What’s interesting about this particular handset is its 16 megapixel camera. On the surface this seems a significant improvement on Nokia’s own N8 device with its surprisingly high specification 12 megapixel camera.
Experts who have seen the smartphone also say it features a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor plus a 3.3 inch touchscreen and a portrait slide-out keyboard. It also incorporates WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.
Those in know also say the new phone doesn’t use Android. Instead the operating system is a proprietary Java-based platform.
As for the camera, which has got the mobile fraternity rather excited, it is said to possess Exmoor R sensors which are ‘back-illuminated’. This helps where lighting is poor; ISO settings are high at ISO 12800. Interestingly, the sensor size is smaller than that found in the Nokia N8. Which means, even with a larger megapixel count, the Nokia N8 camera might just be a better option.
The phone is currently not available in the UK but this could change.
