While the release of yet another smartphone is nothing new, mobile phone experts are getting a little more excited over the release of Pantech’s new device. Seemingly, it’s the world’s first DDR2 mobile phone.
Called the Pantech Vega X it will run version 2.2 (Froyo) of the Android operating system.
It will also feature a new class of mobile memory known as DDR2, which apparently offers users a much faster performance. Interestingly, DDR is normally only found in computers, so it is to Pantech’s credit they have managed to adapt this for their new handset. That said Pantech is no stranger to being ‘first’ in the technology world. The company also state that the new memory will speed up performance by a factor of 1.5.
Other features include a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU plus a 4 inch screen of WVGA resolution. The smartphone will also include a built-in 5 megapixel camera.
Speaking with mobilechoiceuk.com, Pantech’s Vice President Lee Eung-joon effused over the new phone saying “When surfing the Internet, searching the Web running applications or 3D games, its speed is so fast that it could threaten the existence of personal computers.”

In other news, Samsung has confirmed its intentions to upgrade their proprietary Bada operating system to version 2.0. To date six of Samsung’s handsets already run version 1.2 of the platform.
Bada has been criticised by many in the mobile phone world, but Samsung hope this time they will win over the critics with additional interesting features.
